Ivy Dry Extract

Hedera helix L. commonly known as Ivy, is an evergreen climbing plant in the Araliaceae family, native to Central Europe, North and Central Asia. It is also cultivated in different regions of Iran. The most important characteristic of Ivy is its dark evergreen leaves and the development of juvenile and adult foliage. Triterpenoid saponins are mainly found in the leaves and fruits of Hedera helix L with its leaves containing 5-8 % of saponins. Hedera helix leaves contain α-hederin, β-hederin, hederasaponin B, and hederacoside C, which are known to be its main bioactive compounds. Due to its rich phytoconstituents, ivy products have always been widely used in the pharmaceutical and food industries. Since the desired active ingredients of ivy are mainly found in its leaves, they are the plant part utilized by Zardband Pharmaceuticals in production of ivy dry extract. Ivy extract has been approved for the treatment of respiratory tract diseases. It has also been known as an effective and safe treatment for cough and acute bronchitis.
