Pot Marigold Hydroglycolic Extract

Pot marigold (Calendula officinalis), an annual herb in the daisy family Asteraceae, originates from West Asia, Mediterranean Basin, and Europe. It is cultivated in different regions of Iran as well as Zardband farms. The most important characteristic of marigold is disc florets in the center of it, which can vary in color from yellow to orange. The phytochemical active ingredients of Marigold are flavonoids, carotenoids, mucilages, essence, and vitamin E. These constituents have wide applicability in food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. Since the desired active ingredients of marigold are mainly found in its flowers, they are the plant part utilized by Zardband Pharmaceuticals in production of marigold hydroglycolic extract. Marigold extract has anti-inflammatory effects due to its content of triterpene and flavonoid. Flavonoids could inhibit the expression of both cyclooxygenase (COX) and lipoxygenase (LOX) which play an important role in inflammation. It has been found that the water-soluble flavonoids may have wound-healing effects. Due to its antibacterial and antimicrobial properties, Marigold extract would reduce gum inflammation via fighting against plaque. Moreover, it has been used to treat dermatitis, thermal burns, eczema, acne, varicose veins, and hemorrhoids.
